An impressive heavy 18th century carved rectangular Spanish walnut refectory table, the thick rectangular top comprising a single plank keyed at either end to a pair of rails, ovolo carved at the ends, over a deep apron having a row of three frieze draws, the fronts adorned with panels of chip carved rosettes and pinwheels centered with hand wrought iron lozenge-shaped key escutcheons and drop pulls, the stiles at each corner mortised and pegged to the top rails and extending down to form carved, square-section, flared cup-and-cover legs and block feet joined by a low stretcher rail, the frieze, stiles and apron rails embellished with carved block panels and intaglio chip carving of pinwheels, rosettes, paterae and other motifs influenced by Moorish tile ornament.
