Large Exuberantly Decorated Chinese Clobbered Blue and White Gu Vase, Possibly Kangxi Period (1662-1722) -- SOLD

Of traditional gu form with stylized lappet band facets above and below the central knop, decorated in an original underglaze blue floral pattern dominated by a waistband reserve, in ogee outline, containing a vining tree peony (mudan), the later (19th century) enamel colors of scarlet, magenta, green, yellow and gold used to highlight blossoms and leaves frame each facet, or applied as a colored or dotted ground, and accentuated with gold enamel that traces outlines and floral details. The underside of the base painted in underglaze blue with a foliate device in a double ring.
